I ignore the press release and work out what the gadget actually does — and the catch the listing buries.
How I think about this
I have never once been impressed by a press release. Every product page is built to make you feel like your life is incomplete without the thing; my job is to quietly ignore all of that and figure out what it actually does, how it works, what it's genuinely good at, and the one catch the listing hopes you won't notice.
I'd rather talk you out of a bad fifty-dollar buy than watch you lose a Saturday returning it. I don't test in a lab and I won't pretend to — I read the spec, the mechanism and the real trade-offs, and tell you who it's for and who should keep their money.
