Here's the bit the listing buries under "multi-layered film": this is a microlouver filter, which just means it's built from thousands of tiny vertical blinds, too small to see, packed edge to edge inside the film. Light traveling straight out of the screen passes through them cleanly. Light traveling at an angle, like from the seat beside you, hits the sides of those louvers and gets absorbed instead. That's the whole trick, and it's why the effect is binary rather than a fade: straight-on, you get a clear picture; a few degrees off, you get black glass. It also cuts UV and blue light as a side effect of that same layered film, because those wavelengths get scattered along with the side view. The attachment is the second half of the story: instead of adhesive, a magnetic strip runs along the top edge and clips to the bezel, so it goes on and off in seconds with no residue. The trade-off is that a magnetic edge only holds the top; the rest of the film rests on the glass, which is why the matte side also acts as an anti-glare layer, dimming reflections but taking a visible bite out of brightness and color punch, especially on a Liquid Retina XDR display built to be vivid.
