Here's the mechanism worth understanding before you buy anything this size. A strip like this is really a copper circuit board printed with tiny LEDs, marked every few inches with scissor icons, called cut points, so you can trim a run down to fit a doorframe or a headboard without shorting the circuit. That's the whole trick behind selling it as two 100 foot rolls instead of one giant spool: shorter runs mean less voltage drop, so the LEDs at the far end stay close in brightness to the ones near the plug. The manual's instruction to unroll the whole strip before lighting it up is not a formality, it's about heat: coiled LEDs trap warmth against the adhesive backing, and warmth is what peels stick-on lighting off a wall over time. The app and the 24-key IR remote are just two paths to the same control chip; the app adds music sync by listening through your phone's microphone and pulsing color to the beat, which is a fun party trick but means the effect is only as good as wherever you set the phone down. Multicolor RGB at 36 watts across the whole run isn't much power for that much length, and that's exactly why it reads as ambient light, not room light.
