Is the Staples Office Chair Mat with Lip worth it?
A top pick in Office Furniture & Lighting on Amazon (#2 when we checked, Oct 18, 2026)
Worth it if It is worth considering if you have flat-pile commercial carpet up to 1/8 inch thick and want a clear mat that extends under the desk. The 47.5 by 35.5 inch surface gives your chair a defined rolling area while helping protect carpet from caster wear.
Good to know: If you need a mat for thick or plush carpet, check the carpet thickness and choose a model rated for that surface.
A Clear Chair Mat That Protects Carpet and Extends Under the Desk
The Staples Office Chair Mat with Lip is built around a simple daily problem: chair casters wear carpet, and a small mat can leave the area under your desk exposed. Its lip extends beneath the desk, so the protected surface reaches farther forward than the main rolling area. That gives your feet and chair a continuous section of coverage during a normal workday.
The mat is made from clear vinyl, which keeps the floor visible rather than covering it with an opaque surface. Its listed dimensions are 47.5 inches long by 35.5 inches wide, with a 0.25-inch thickness. That is a defined footprint for a chair and part of the desk area, not a full-floor covering.
The listing rates it for flat-pile commercial carpet up to 1/8 inch thick, including padding depth. Rounded AnchorBar cleats hold the mat on carpet while being described as gentler on carpets and hands than sharp spikes. The result is a surface intended to stay positioned while your chair rolls across it. For the right carpet thickness, the design concentrates protection and under-desk coverage where seated work creates the most wear.
You get one clear vinyl mat, a lip for under-desk coverage, and a defined rolling surface in a compact 3-pound package. It is a focused purchase for protecting the chair zone rather than covering the whole office floor.

The Staples Office Chair Mat with Lip makes sense for a desk setup on flat-pile commercial carpet up to 1/8 inch thick. Its clear vinyl keeps the floor visible, while the lip extends protection under the desk and the rounded cleats help hold the mat on carpet. The 47.5 by 35.5 inch footprint suits a focused chair area. Check your carpet thickness first, then this is a straightforward way to give your chair a smoother, protected surface.
