Is the Sam and Colby XPLR Spirit Box worth it?
A top pick in Test, Measure & Inspect on Amazon (#8 when we checked, Oct 16, 2026)
Worth it if Choose it if you want a compact starter device for paranormal-themed exploration, with AM/FM scanning, a REM antenna, EMF meter, temperature sensors, and speaker or headphone listening in one unit.
Good to know: If you need a conventional instrument for verified environmental measurements, look for a dedicated EMF or temperature meter with clearly stated measurement specifications.
A portable spirit box that puts several inspection features in one device
The Sam and Colby XPLR Spirit Box is built around one practical choice: combining several paranormal-investigation features in a small, battery-operated unit. Instead of carrying separate pieces for radio scanning, EMF awareness, temperature readings, and audio playback, you get those functions together in a device measuring 7.91 by 5.94 by 1.69 inches and weighing 3.84 ounces.
The AM/FM scanning and REM antenna support the spirit-box style of exploration, while the digital display with backlight makes the controls and readings easier to follow in darker settings. The EMF meter and temperature sensors add environmental information to the session, so you can watch for changes rather than relying only on sound.
Daily use stays simple. The unit runs on AAA batteries, has a built-in microphone, speaker, volume control, and headphone jack, and can be used alone or with a group. Use the speaker when everyone wants to listen, or headphones when you want a more focused session. That combination makes it a useful starting point for ghost-hunting activities, Halloween setups, or anyone who wants a portable prop with more going on than appearance alone.
The value is in combining radio scanning, EMF awareness, temperature sensing, and audio features in one compact device. It can serve as a starter tool or a Halloween prop without requiring a separate piece for each activity.
Great for
- Beginners starting a paranormal exploration kit
- Fans wanting a Sam and Colby themed device
- Groups sharing audio through the built-in speaker
- Solo explorers who prefer the headphone jack
- Halloween hosts seeking a working prop with multiple functions
Maybe not for you if
- You need verified measurement specifications for professional inspection work
- You want a dedicated EMF or temperature instrument
- You prefer equipment that does not rely on AAA batteries
The Sam and Colby XPLR Spirit Box makes sense for beginners, fans, gift buyers, and anyone planning a paranormal-themed activity. Its compact body combines AM/FM scanning, a REM antenna, EMF and temperature features, a backlit display, and speaker or headphone listening. AAA battery operation keeps it portable, while the controls are approachable for solo sessions or groups. Choose it for an accessible all-in-one experience, not as a replacement for a dedicated measurement instrument. For the right buyer, it brings more structure and interaction to a ghost-hunting session.
Amazon shoppers rate it 4.2 out of 5 across 495 ratings. That is their number, not ours.
