Is the Mattel Buzz Lightyear Flying RC worth it?
A top pick in Remote & App Controlled Vehicles & Parts on Amazon (#11 when we checked, Oct 23, 2026)
Worth it if you want an indoor Toy Story flying toy for an 8+ fan, with easy takeoff and landing buttons plus forward, backward, side-to-side and 360-degree controls. The included remote, charging cable and spare propellers make it ready for play.
Good to know: If you need an outdoor RC vehicle or a quiet, non-flying toy, look for a model designed for that kind of play.
An indoor flying RC toy built for hands-on Toy Story play
Kids are ruthless reviewers, and a flying toy has to get past the first launch. The Mattel Disney and Pixar Toy Story 5 Flying RC Buzz Lightyear is designed specifically for indoor use, so play can happen in a room rather than waiting for the right outdoor conditions. Its lightweight construction is intended to support sustained flight, while the Buzz Lightyear figure keeps the toy tied to the movie world children already recognize.
The useful design choice is the control layout. Dedicated takeoff and landing buttons simplify the two moments that can make a flying toy feel tricky, while the remote also gives forward and backward movement, side-to-side travel, up and down control, and 360-degree maneuvering. That range lets the player guide Buzz through hover and stunt flying positions rather than only sending him in one direction.
The result is active, repeatable play with a clear learning curve: launch, steer, try a turn, then bring the Space Ranger down. The package includes a remote control, charging cable and eight propellers, with two AAA batteries listed as included for the remote. This suits a child who wants to control the action, not simply watch a character move.
You get a character figure, remote control, charging cable and eight propellers in one set. That gives a Toy Story fan the flight toy and the control gear together, with spare propellers included for future play.
Great for
- Toy Story fans ages 8 and up
- Kids who enjoy indoor flying toys
- Children ready to practice remote-control steering
- Families looking for a character-led active play set
Maybe not for you if
- You mainly need an outdoor RC vehicle
- The child prefers a stationary Toy Story figure
- You want a toy without flight controls or battery power
The Mattel Disney and Pixar Toy Story 5 Flying RC Buzz Lightyear is a strong fit for an 8+ Toy Story fan who wants active indoor play and enjoys learning remote-control movements. Takeoff and landing buttons make the first steps approachable, while the directional and 360-degree controls leave room for more involved flying. The included charging cable, remote and eight propellers round out the set. Choose it for a child who wants Buzz to take flight and steer the mission.
Amazon shoppers rate it 3.2 out of 5 across 45 ratings. That is their number, not ours.
