Is the HP 962XL Black High worth it?
A top pick in Office Electronics on Amazon (#7 when we checked, Oct 27, 2026)
Worth it if you have a listed HP OfficeJet printer and print black documents regularly, the HP 962XL Black High is worth considering for its genuine HP design and approximately 2,000-page yield. It suits home, school, and small-office printing where a single black cartridge needs to last.
Good to know: If your printer is not one of the listed compatible models, look for a cartridge matched to its exact model number before buying.
A high-yield ink cartridge for fewer replacements
The counter is usually simple: the cartridge runs low halfway through a workday, and the next print job waits. The HP 962XL Black High is designed for compatible HP OfficeJet printers and lists an approximate yield of 2,000 pages, so it is aimed at regular black-document printing rather than occasional use.
The useful design choice is the XL, high-yield format. More listed page capacity means fewer cartridge changes across a long run of plain-paper documents. That can make a practical difference for forms, school work, invoices, and routine office pages, where stopping to replace black ink is more disruptive than the print itself.
HP also identifies this as a genuine cartridge engineered for its compatible printers. That gives you a direct match within the supported OfficeJet range, rather than asking you to sort through a third-party fit. The listing includes OfficeJet 9012e and many OfficeJet Pro 9010 and 9020 series models. Check your exact printer number first, because compatibility is the part that decides whether this otherwise straightforward purchase works for your desk.
You get one genuine black XL cartridge with an approximate 2,000-page yield, so its value is strongest when you print often and want fewer replacement interruptions. It is a practical single-cartridge supply for home, school, and small-office documents.
Great for
- Owners of listed HP OfficeJet and OfficeJet Pro printers
- Home users printing regular black documents
- Students handling school papers and forms
- Small offices needing a larger black ink supply
Maybe not for you if
- You use a printer outside the listed compatible models
- You print only occasionally and do not need an XL cartridge
- You need color ink rather than a single black cartridge
The HP 962XL Black High makes sense for owners of the listed HP OfficeJet and OfficeJet Pro models who print black documents regularly. Its genuine HP format and approximate 2,000-page yield focus the purchase on dependable compatibility and fewer cartridge changes. Check the exact printer model before ordering, especially within the 9010 and 9020 families. For a compatible printer, this is a straightforward way to keep everyday paperwork moving with a substantial black ink supply.
Amazon shoppers rate it 4.7 out of 5 across 11,621 ratings. That is their number, not ours.
