Is the HP 63XL/65XL Black Ink Cartridge worth it?
A top pick in Office Electronics on Amazon (#6 when we checked, Oct 6, 2026)
Worth it if you print occasionally with a compatible HP printer and want one genuine black cartridge that replaces both 63XL and 65XL numbers, with an approximate 300-page yield.
Good to know: If your printer is not listed as compatible, check its exact cartridge requirement before buying.
A genuine HP ink cartridge for simpler everyday printing
The 4pm test for printer supplies is simple: can you replace the cartridge without second-guessing the number? The HP 63XL/65XL Black Ink Cartridge is designed to replace both HP 63XL and 65XL cartridges, so the useful design choice is the combined compatibility rather than a longer feature list.
That matters because cartridge numbers are easy to mix up. If your compatible HP printer calls for either 63XL or 65XL, this single black cartridge is intended as the direct replacement. HP lists compatibility across selected AMP and DeskJet models, including AMP 100, 105, 120, 125 and 130, plus a range of DeskJet 1100, 2100, 2600 and 3600 series models. Check your exact printer model first.
The cartridge is genuine HP, pigment-based, and listed as fade resistant. HP says it is engineered for consistent quality and reliability, while the listing gives an approximate yield of 300 pages. For everyday plain-paper documents, school work and home or small-office printing, that gives you a clear, low-friction choice: one black cartridge, one stated yield, and less uncertainty about whether the 63XL or 65XL label is the right one.
The value is in getting a genuine HP cartridge with an approximate 300-page yield and compatibility with both 63XL and 65XL requirements. It can also replace the need to keep two different cartridge numbers in mind.
Great for
- Occasional home printing of black documents
- Students printing schoolwork on plain paper
- Small offices using a listed HP AMP or DeskJet model
- Anyone replacing an HP 63XL or 65XL cartridge
Maybe not for you if
- You use an HP printer model outside the listed compatibility range
- You need color printing from the cartridge
- You print at a volume that calls for a different cartridge capacity
The HP 63XL/65XL Black Ink Cartridge is a sensible choice for occasional home, school or small-office printing when your compatible printer uses either the 63XL or 65XL format. Its genuine HP design, pigment black ink, fade-resistant listing and approximate 300-page yield cover the practical needs of everyday documents. The combined cartridge naming is the main convenience, but exact model fit still comes first. For the right HP printer, it keeps the replacement decision clear and the printed page dependable.
Amazon shoppers rate it 4.7 out of 5 across 235,972 ratings. That is their number, not ours.
