Is the Colorfil 20x20x1 Air Filter worth it?
A top pick in Heating, Cooling & Air Quality on Amazon (#6 when we checked, Oct 6, 2026)
Worth it if pet odor is your main HVAC concern and your system takes a 20x20x1 slide-in filter. The MERV 8 pleated filter targets pet hair, dander, dust and gas-phase odors, with a pink-to-yellow color change to signal use.
Good to know: If you need heavier-duty filtration than MERV 8, look for a higher-rated filter that your HVAC system supports.
A pleated HVAC filter that helps track pet odor
The Colorfil 20x20x1 Air Filter (2-Pack) makes one practical choice visible: it changes from pink toward yellow as it absorbs and neutralizes gas-phase odors. That gives you a visual cue instead of asking your nose to decide whether the filter has had enough use. The filter slides into compatible residential air conditioners, furnaces or HVAC systems, so the cue sits where the air is already being filtered.
The filter is pleated and rated MERV 8. Its stated job covers pet hair, dander and dust, while the listing focuses especially on cat and dog odor. Because it uses no added scents, it aims to reduce odors rather than cover them with fragrance. That matters in a pet household where a perfumed spray can simply add another smell to the room.
The exact size is listed as 19.5 by 19.5 by 0.75 inches, despite the 20x20x1 name, so check the old filter and slot before ordering. You get two filters in the pack. The result is a straightforward fit for routine residential HVAC replacement when pet odor is the problem you want addressed, not a substitute for a heavier-duty filtration setup.
The value comes from combining two replacement filters with odor-focused filtration and a visible change cue. You also get one filter format for pet hair, dander, dust and gas-phase odors rather than adding a separate fragranced odor product.
Great for
- Pet households focused on cat or dog odor
- Residential HVAC systems using a slide-in filter
- Shoppers who want MERV 8 filtration for dust, dander and pet hair
- Homes that prefer odor reduction without added fragrance
Maybe not for you if
- You need filtration above MERV 8
- Your HVAC slot does not match the listed exact size
- You want a standalone room air purifier rather than an HVAC replacement filter
The Colorfil 20x20x1 Air Filter is worth considering when cat or dog odor is the main reason you are replacing an HVAC filter. Its MERV 8 pleated construction covers everyday dust, dander and pet hair, while the pink-to-yellow change gives you a clear visual reminder that the filter has been in use. Check the exact slot size first, and choose another model if your system calls for heavier-duty filtration. For the right residential HVAC fit, it keeps the air-filtering job simple and odor-focused.
Amazon shoppers rate it 4.5 out of 5 across 5,943 ratings. That is their number, not ours.
